Holiday Books

Lots of beautiful new books are available – no matter what holiday your family celebrates!

Grace At Christmas by Mary Hoffman revisites the spunky girl first seen in the book Amazing Grace.    Grace loves playing all the parts of the Navity, but when un-expected guests come to stay at her house, she feels like saying “No room at the Inn!”

Or try Strega Nona’s Gift by Tomie De Paola for another classic character in a holiday story.

Listen to the Silent Night by D. Mackall imagines what noises were heard on that holy night.  Pre-schoolers love animal sounds, and this story engages them in active participation.  A Cristmas Goodnight by Nola Buck offers a quieter tale of the holy night aimed at young listeners.

Hanukkah Hop by Erika Silverman.  Join Rachel and her family as they celebrate Hanukkah, lighting the candles, eating latkes, and playing special games.  The retro illustrations add to the fun of this introduction  to the Jewish holiday.   Also try, Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah by Olga Ivanov.

Li’l Rabbit’s Kwanzaa by Donna Washington came out last year, but this fun sweet story is still my favorite for this Holiday.

Li’l Rabbit is worried ‘cuz his granny is sick.  What if she can’t come to the big feast, Karamu? So he goes looking high and low, visiting all his animal neighbors to find a special treat for her.  When he can’t find the right something, he return home sad.  But on the big day, a special surprize finds him!
